| Homelessness has become a growing problem in Placer County. No longer confined to big cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, it has reached into our own communities and affects people who grew up here.

The homeless in our area are not just the people we see pushing shopping carts and holding up cardboard signs at intersections. They can be people with low-paying jobs, people with children who have no permanent address, or people who have fallen into poverty and hopelessness due to various circumstances. Some may be victims of domestic violence. Many are trapped by substance abuse and mental health issues.
And while larger cities often receive funding from government and charitable foundations for their programs to aid the homeless, smaller communities like Rocklin and Roseville are often overlooked when it comes to public funds. |
| A survey taken in 2007 found 587 homeless people in Placer County. That number represented a 47% increase from a survey taken 5 years earlier. |
