About Us

In early 1998 the City of Roseville put out a request for applications for participation in the city’s Continuum of Care Consortium to access McKinney Act Funds. The focus of the committee was to determine where the gaps in services to the homeless were and determine a plan to address the gaps. I was selected to the committee along with about 6 other people and in early summer of 1998 the committee went to work identifying the service gaps and determining possible service options to address the need. By end of summer the work was done and the committee identified that the greatest gap in services was for single homeless people in Roseville. Unfortunately this was not supported by the city and the plan was not funded.

Having participated in the process and realizing that the gap in services continued to exist, I pulled together a small group of interested and concerned Roseville citizens to develop a way to address the need on our own rather than wait for governmental direction. On October 26, 1998 we had The Lazarus Project, Inc. legal and ready to do business. We decided that we would primarily serve single homeless people in Placer County as this population was the most underserved and under realized as a worthy recipient of care, housing and services.

We opened our first home for single men in April of 1999 as housing and support services for men were most lacking in Placer County. Since then we have opened three more homes one of which is for women.

Why The Lazarus Project is Important to the Community
The economic downturn has driven more people to our program for housing and support services. For 10 years people in need have relied on The Lazarus Project as an opportunity to overcome their situation and return to self-sufficiency. The Lazarus Project has the facilities, expertise and experience to respond to the needs of those with limited options...but relies on the abundant resources and goodwill of the Placer County community.

What Makes Our Program Different?
Not only does The Lazarus Project provide people with a secure environment, but we also offer them the tools and resources needed to help them ease back into society as working, self-sufficient individuals. We offer people the opportunity to better themselves by providing a support system with services ranging from counseling to financial literacy classes.
